Travis Baldree is a top tier voice actor, unfortunately not even he could make this book entertaining. The entire premise of this book is mundane, clichéd, and beyond annoying.
Any Litrpg book has a few requirements to be successful:
1. Upload = new life. This book does not include that aspect, and the whole plot premise is associated with him reliving his old life in a new fantasy world which he knows nothing about nor does he bother to learn anything about, all the while, trying to rescue a sleeping digital copy of his dead wife.
2. New world should be as good if not better than the old world as farm as visually, size, and mechanics. With the mediocre world building, the author’s digital world is mundane and lame. There is nothing about Mythia that makes me want to, continue the book.
3. The protagonist either has to know video games well or be smart enough to figure them out. This protagonist is beyond dumb, annoying, and overall ignorant. He’s a poorly developed and poorly chosen protagonist and single handedly ruins every aspect of the book. I cannot even get past chapter 6 because of how bad the character is developed and continues to think and act. I’m not sure who this book is catering to…… Either a super old man who doesn’t use or like technology or some very young child that doesn’t understand the co cept of learning or improving to be good at something.
4. The protagonist has to be able progress even and often under austere conditions. This character is not only repeatedly inhibited by significantly more advanced players e en when it does not make sense. A prime example of this is a spawn point for newbs that is in a pvp zone, a mechanic that does not need to exist. Another example is a dungeon for newbs that also does not have a specified end or beginning. The thing I hate the most though is the concept of death where you resurrect flesh and blood with no money or items at all that you have to recover even though you can be easily killed…… Making the concept of tanks a very dumb and reduculous design……..
