✨ 4/5 stars for both the story and the narration ✨
This is my first listen by this author (haven’t read her before either) and I enjoyed this prequel and definitely want to know what happens next, hopefully it will come out on audio so I can continue with the good narration as well!
I will say storywise I felt it a little jumbled sometimes and I think it was because the author wanted to keep things mysterious, couldnt reveal things until the next installment, and I get that, just made for a choppy flow sometimes. I think sometimes how quickly she dives into things (or guys haha) was a little shocking to me. I mean she goes from outright hating a guy to getting all cozy and then upset when he dashes. Like I assume I understand the just of the word he said to her, but he isn’t doing himself favors by ditching and not seeking her out. Also the random bird showing up, the 2 come for the rescue and then things get heated randomly. Again maybe its from things that will be revealed in book 2, it just seemed all over the place sometimes/like squirrel distraction moments if you know what I mean haha (this Doug from UP haha). I did enjoy Jolene and the side characters and the southern charm/politics going on! It reminded me a little of Hart of Dixie and I loved that show ❤️ The men were yummy too.
I had to remind myself this was a PNR RH because you really don’t get hints about it except the animal companions. So I assume there is at least 3 in the harem, some M/M to follow (which I am here for!!!) and they are gonna be shifters, not sure what she is gonna be haha. I like her bengals and their antics haha. Will be waiting for book 1 I guess (since this is book 0) to come out on audio so I can see what happens next and all the build-up in this prequel.
In terms of the narration I thought this narrator did a great job with the different southern twangs, the numerous characters and personalities. I thought she did a good job with Jolene’s internal monologue with her determination, grit, vulnerability, and her finally letting go with the guys.
