If you need to know more about Arthur Shawcross then consider counseling. This is true crime writing at its best with many of the most shocking revelations saved for last. What amazes me above all is how deeply and sincerely some women loved this weird and terrible man. Olsen covers every corner of the story without boring the listener with an endless litany of detail. He also never forgets the victims and fills in their short and tragic lives as much as he can. The narration deserves extra special mention. I have seen interviews with Shawcross (what is his deal with the blinking eyes and bobbing Adams Apple ?) and the narrator impersonates him perfectly so I can only assume his other characterizations were equally brilliant. A must for any true crime afficianado and truly all anyone needs to know about this brutal and self-pitying monster.
