I still like the story arc overall, but this was a drop off from the prior book. For me the narrator is consistently irritating. We hear annoying deep audible breaths between sentences. He constantly uses incorrect tone inflections from what is happening in the story or from what the characters are saying. He is limited in his character voices.
From a story perspective, the sarcasm is intended to be funny but is just annoying. I didn’t chuckle or even smile a single time. Finn’s main motivation is supposed to play on our heartstrings but it rings hollow and sappy to me. The characters behave inconsistently: Julia rages with anger far beyond what the situation calls for, Finn is afraid to tell the others information that there is no reason to hide, etc.
I’ll probably listen to the next one because I’m a completionist at heart, but I have lowered my enjoyment expectations.
