This book came very highly recommended by a friend. This was the first time I was made aware that LitRPG exists (in my mind, a book written as if the character was in a video game with hit points and damage points etc.). My only past experience with the genre had been with a short story for a young child. Personally, I didn’t care for the discussion of levels and points that permeated every aspect of the story, However, I must say, that by having an empirical system to demonstrate how difficult something was or how badly something hurt it really felt like it freed the author up to weave in elements of a journey, a love story and a variety of characters. This book had a plot and I enjoyed the energy. The narration was very good. Travis Baldree took the reading very seriously and that was important.
