Spoiler Alert:
PAINFULLY DUMB!
The worldbuilding started off well, if a bit trite, but dear lord, the MC has ZERO ability to use context clues, extrapolate, remember basic information he learned 5 minutes ago, or even just have his own opinion. I can get behind a character being dumb because that’s who they are however, this doesn’t read that way.
I firmly feel that the MC’s inability to even vaguely understand what is happening at any time is a lazy way for the author to ensure even the most braindead reader knows what’s going on. The most basic events are confusing to the MC as if he is 100 percent incapable of processing information unless another character is telling him what to think/do.
I got a couple hours in before listening to this was make me legitimately angry and realizing even if it does improve (which other reviews say it does not) it wasn’t worth it to me to continue.
