This book really hit the spot for me. Mafia is a go-to trope, and this one had the added benefit of a lady-boss to make it extra special. It was vicious and dark an a way that many books don’t really dare to go, and I was here for it. There were funny parts (if you’re into that kind of dark humor, like I am) and heartbreaking parts, and it all balanced out perfectly for me. I didn’t realize that the next few books focus on the same couple, but I was pleased that this book wrapped itself up, so it’s only on a soft cliffhanger, and if one were so inclined, you could walk away from these two without needing to know what happens next. I am not one of those people, I need more Mel and Liam, as much as I can get, so I’m glad that I can read their next books, as well as the next generation.

I listened to the audio version, and though there was a single narrator reading both points of view, it was done well, and with great accents, so it didn’t bother me at all that there wasn’t a female narrator as well
