- This was a cute fun read that pulls you in. I wouldn’t say it was realistic but a great fantasy that most of us wish would happen to us. With Alexis being a nurse when they bring in her heartthrob brother who is really sick she gets to meet and get to know the singer she has had a crush on for years. As she takes care of his brother, giving them her sassy attitude that keeps them smiling through hard times she is able to take the sick brother into hand giving him some much needed advice that brings him around and makes him the lovable man he is. At the same time she fights her feeling for his brother Oliver. As she gets to know him it gets harder when he lays on the charm which keeps her knees weak and her mind full of dreams. The plot is based around them and his brothers sickness it is filled with sorrow, smiles, laughs and drama.
I have listened to a few of Ms. Kahn’s narration and there is still the echo that really takes away from the audio performance. The narration it’s self is really very good, it would be a wonderful audio if there wasn’t the echo. There are a few places where she repeats a few words or a sentence. A couple of very slight volume changes that you almost do not notice. Her character voices are wonderful , you have no trouble knowing who is talking and what they are feeling. Her normal voice is very pleasant, her male and female voices are delightful. Beside the echo which after awhile you do not notice (I guess I got use to it) there is no background noises. I am guessing with the repeat of wording is when breaks were taken. I did enjoy the audio and felt she bought it to life. There were times I chuckled and times I really was very sad and my heart broke for the characters. I put that down to the narration really being able to make me feel what she was saying. She puts a lot of emotion into her reading that does pull the listener in. I am saying again she really needs to think about getting a filter to take the echo out which would really give this audio a five stars.
I really enjoyed the plot, the way the author put the problems out there but was still able to make you chuckle and smile through her humor in the characters. Alexis does have some issues from her past which rolls over to her present. Falling for a heartthrob with so many fans is hard, not knowing if it is the fame that is the pull or if it is really love is hard. We all have a picture in our heads of what are heartthrobs are like but are they truly like that or when you get to know them will they be different. Alexis has to deal with his fans, his mother and other people who are jealous of her plus her past which makes it hard to trust anyone. For every step forward there is someone pushing them a few steps back.
Oliver is past a different girl for every night he is looking for the ONE. Every woman he meets is after his fame they want to the women on his arm and to get some of his money but they do not want to get to know him. When he meets Alexis she is down to earth, puts them in their place and treats them like normal people. This grabs his attention and holds it. As he gets to know her he finds she is the women he wants but they live states away from each other and she isn’t willing to give them a chance. He isn’t giving up but things aren’t going to be easy for either of them.
What made this story for me was the easy way the plot twists and turns pulling on your heartstrings but keeping you smiling as your heart breaks. The humor of the characters, I just love the boy’s mother she is a lady tiger who protects her clubs. At first I thought Oh NO not one of those mothers but as you get to know her she is a delightful woman. I loved the way the romance builds, the picking and teasing between them all. Her best friend is out of this world, I so want her for my besty. This is a very clean read up until close to the end. I really liked that, there was no jumping into bed but some really heart to heart chats, getting to know each other and some very meaningful time spent with just them, friends and family and some one on one time for each character to have some alone time. The story really came together making the reader really like the characters, plot and the true meaning of a relationship. This is the first time I have read/listen to anything by this author but it won’t be the last. I loved her writing style and how she pulls you in from the first page keeping your attention until the last.
