An interesting take on the genre and it had a lot of promise. Problem is the author clearly developed ideas late in the series then forced the plot to comply with them. It leaves a big let down from the energetic start and despite the initial note from the author that the core characters would respond to different situations, he forced the characters to change in them to meet his desired outcome rather than letting things play out, making a given character’s responses into something unrealistic and confused. The 3rd book was almost a complete filler of garbage with people making out of character decisions and the story used poorly developed literary devices of foreshadowing etc. ie it was predictable and unbelievable. (Like a father completely forgetting about the existence of his youngest daughter during a catastrophe). I wanted more from this series, but it didn’t deliver.
