I bought the hardcover edition of this book in 2016. I’ve read it and read it and then read it again last week when I knew I was going to be listening to the audiobook. I love this book and was not looking forward to listening to it. I wasn’t sure what it would do to something that I really liked. And I have to admit in the beginning it was a little jarring. Not that there is anything wrong with it, just that it isn’t what I was expecting. I guess in the building that is my brain the voices were different. And I never really realized I already had internal voices for the characters. But then as the story progressed, as I said a story I’ve loved, they grew on me. It wasn’t long until I got to experience something I loved in a whole new way. I don’t think I can ever hold them as the same thing, but then I guess they really aren’t the same. The people voicing my beloved characters give them their own life. hearing the inflections of their interpretations of the words really brings a new feeling to the work.
What do I get from the whole thing? That I need to go try audiobooks for other books that I love.
