I love the premise and the narrator, but the writing had issues. The “adult” scenes waffled between vulgar and skipped over. If you’re going to talk about how people pleasure themselves, you might as well go into detail about how they pleasure each other (and do it early in the book so I know what I’m in for). It also felt like there was more than one writer (or the writer was taking classes as they wrote) as the style changed throughout the book. Finally, all the military action is either incredibly easy (he fires 4 missiles and immediately destroys a cruiser) or impossible for capable soldiers (“the best of the broken”) to overcome even in part. Finally, the book felt dragged out even though I enjoy huge tomes like Stormlight Archive.
Like I said, I love the premise. I’m not sure if I’m going to go on to the next book though.
