There’s nothing particularly bad about this story*, and it generally moves along at a decent clip, but at the same time it feels like it just doesn’t offer anything new. All the action setpieces and the plotlines with the various aliens just feel like things I’ve already seen in other books, movies, or TV shows. Even more than the first book, it feels like it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. The narration is also a bit less enjoyable – the main parts and human characters are alright, but the alien voices veer more into cartoonishness than I think the story needs.

Overall it’s fine, it’s a decent read if you just need some light entertainment. I just wouldn’t expect much more than that.

*Well, inane love triangle subplot aside
