- What did you love best about Super Sales on Super Heroes?
- Audiobooks are an investment. They cost a bit of money up front but not too much, but at nearly 12hrs in length, as soon as you click play, the real cost of owning an audiobook begins to assert itself. You hang on tightly, and hope you enjoy the ride. At least 11 out of the 12 hrs of SSSH is an absolute pleasure, so overall this book was an excellent purchase.
SSSH is could have been real yucky, central to the plot is a group of (mostly) hot women enslaved to some every-guy, and said guy is an inspiring super-villan. However, this “evil overlord” turns out to be as good as gold, and the “heroes” pitted against him turn out to be monsters performing a series of unspeakable acts of true evil in an effort to prevail. It is a fascinating juxtaposition, expertly crafted by the author, and expertly performed by the narrator.
Sadly, in the final chapter the whole illusion is blown. It felt like the author suddenly realized he had to wrap up the story in an hour to get it off to the publisher or something. This plays out as a jarring mess of a climax, which left me drained and trying to convince myself that those last 12 hrs really were well spent… ultimately, I think they were but its a close thing.
- Would you be willing to try another book from William D. Arand? Why or why not?
- “Super Sales Two, Cleaning Up All Those Lose Ends I Left Laying Around”, would be an excellent “another book from William D. Arand”, which I would most certainty try. I hope the author gets this book out quickly, as I really enjoyed the universe he crafted for SSSH.
- What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?
- I think this guy is one of the top narrators in the game. well done Jeff!
- Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
- Well the ending did, but not in a positive way. I went having a great time, to saying WTF over and over, followed by a bit of sadness for having been put though such an undeserved ending to an otherwise great story. Did i mention I wasn’t fond of the way the author ended this book?
- Any additional comments?
- This is a surprisingly well written story. The characters are great, the story is great, and the narration is extra great… right up to the last chapter. If there is a book two, then all will be forgiven…
