While note the best LitRPG story I’ve listened to, it is definitely a very good one. There is a confusing detail that gets teased out in the beginning and references repeatedly throughout the book that finally gets revealed pretty fully about 80% of the way through. It was a touch annoying at first, as I thought perhaps I had missed something early on, which is part of the missing star for the story (though not the whole reason).
The story is well-written overall and definitely engaging. There are a few elements that could have been tightened up, but mostly the player development is fluid and consistent.
Jeff Hays is one of my favorite narrators. He owns this genre, IMO, and continues to show why with this performance.
