- Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
- No. I would definitely not recommend this book to a friend & certainly not a Christian friend.
- Would you ever listen to anything by Mark Goodwin again?
- Probably not. I’m done with the series after this book. I thought the first one was a bit hokey, but this one just totally lost me. I understand it’s a fictional survival series and the writer is trying to give some pepper advice in the context of a story. However, as a Christian, I find the hypocrisy of quoting scripture to condemn stealing (repeatedly) while at the same time eviscerating someone to get information and then murdering an entire group asking for donations (under false pretenses) is extreme and something I would expect on the Walking Dead TV show, not in a Christian end times series. The main characters weren’t even fired upon before they started killing that other group…and started a war as a result. How anybody believes that Jesus would condone these type of actions, even in an apocalyptic situation, is beyond my New Testament Biblical understanding. Self defense is one thing. However, torture and premeditated murder are something completely different. Mark Goodwin may want to go back and reread the New Testament as to how we are instructed to interact with others. I’ve never read anywhere where it says that these rules are guidelines and only apply in an ordered and civil society or if the lights stay on.
- What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?
- The narration was about the only thing I enjoyed about this book.
- Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
- The hypocrisy of condoning torture and murdering folks in cold blood turned my stomach. Self defense is one thing. Evisceration/ torture and premeditated murder is not self defense.
- Any additional comments?
- The book was too overly descriptive (play by play) to be entertaining. I understand the author was trying to give prepper advice within the context of the story, but it really broke up the pace and continuity and made it quite irritating after a while. Just footnote the detailed advice and include it in the last section of the book for those who want to explore it further.
