- Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
- It was an enjoyable listen. However, the mystery was downplayed by everything else going on and the temperament and manners of the period. There was no sense of urgency in finding the killer and no questions of why the coroner said the death was by fire when the victim clearly had been bashed in the head, as discovered by the detective. It felt like listening to a Jane Austen story rather than a mystery. Also, there was absolutely no way the reader could have guessed the killer or the motivation, as nothing was previously revealed until the denouement.
- How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
- It needed to be more of a mystery, more intrigue, and urgency over the situation unless the intent was to have everyone act like a Jane Austen novel. Maybe that was it and I just didn’t get it?
- What about Joel Froomkin’s performance did you like?
- Joel is the best narrator hands down. His ability to do any voice and any accent amazes me.
- Do you think A Dead Bore needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
- Possibly. The detective and the lady who hired him were falling in love and you could see how this could be a series of mysteries featuring this couple.
- Any additional comments?
