The story is compelling even though it’s a bit of a slow start. I listened all the way through because the story was so good. The narrator, not so much. He’s very talented at performing various character voices but he pronounces the H in any word starting with WH like it’s the entirety of what he’s being paid to perform. “She WHithered WHile Alfonzo demanded she explain WHat she was doing. “ Every character uses the heavy H no matter WHat. It distracted from the story and from the performance. Maxine’s character sounds exactly like the tik tok character from user TalkoftheTownie https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPd47Ebhu/ that’s not a bad thing, just an observation. The story ends on a cliff hanger and I would be dashing to listen to the next book if not for WHat may be in store for me. I’d rather read it myself than listen to the H any longer.
