I’ve listened to several true crime books narrated by Kevin Pearce. He is the best.

Tho book, unfortunately, isn’t. The author fills in a lot of details, say 90 percent of the details with made up conversations, thoughts, conjectures that are as fictitious as anything in a Star Wars or Harry Potter novel. It makes for interesting listening, I guess, but the sheer volume of made up conversations and especially made up self-talk by the main character becomes distracting. This is suppose to be a true crime story. It should be, like some tv shows and films state up front, “loosely based on actual events.”

For that reason I struggled to continue listening. I eventually just went online and read up on available factual details about the crimes and the criminals. In the end, when he was going on and on about the main character’s thoughts while in jail, I just couldn’t stomach any more. This guy has one active imagination. His books should be in the fiction section.
