The main character is annoying, whiny, and spends half the book talking about his daddy issues. The monsters were forgettable and generic. Around the midway point of the book the author decided to turn the AI assistant from a professor-esque personality to a childish, one liner spewing, pop culture reference gargling, snarky side kick that has been done to death in this genre. I had to start and stop multiple times because the sound of silence became preferable to listening to one more minute of this book. I did manage to finish the book over the course of several days but that says more about my stubbornness than the quality of the book.
