This book is really awful. The worst part is the narration. The new reader makes Cookie sound like a bored teenager, the voices of all of the older women sound alike, and some of the men sound like women. There is no enthusiasm in the reading, and the story just seems to drone on and on. Of course part of the problem is that this book is insipid and uninspired. Cookie seems to have lost all of her gumption and spirit. Suddenly she is more than willing to figure out who killed the ghosts without argument or comment. There are only minor offhand comments about fashion and that used to be a unique and interesting part of these books. And the cat doesn’t play much of a role anymore because of the constant and boring reminders that she isn’t really a cat but is the host for Cookie’s grandmother. I really enjoyed the first 4 books of this series, but #5 is a disaster. I wish I could return it as well as #6, but my 365 return window has expired.
