1st I want to say. I only bought into this series because books 1 and 2 were combined. Books 3 and 4 being combined kept me going. Smart move combining them cause I’m not paying for 6 hour stories.
The start of this series is GANGBUSTERS amazing. If you’re into character development and solid writing this thing jumps into hyperdrive of that type of content from the first page and doesn’t stop — until it hits the damn brakes in book 3. Just want to warn you. I just finished book 4 and I’m shaking my head going – what?? Who wrote this?
The Good:
• Avatar Mode (air bender) enabled Super Saiyan mode having powerhouse who has some character depth and isn’t a psycho. MC is just awesome in these books.
• MC doesn’t waste a damn second. He knows he needs power and just goes after it from LITERALLY the first second of life until he hits his pre-teens.
• Solid writing. VERY solid. MC perspective is good. Side characters are solid.
• World is well designed but enough is left mysterious to stay intriguing.
The Bad:
• If this is your kind of book – there isn’t much bad at all with books 1 and 2. That said at the time I’m writing this there are 8 books out. I just finished book 4 and I’m here to tell you. It doesn’t stay amazing the whole way through. Book 3 is okay. It has forgivable plot hooks that make you scratch your head and the MC is solid. Side characters start to get annoying but not so bad. Book 4 is a damn train wreck. Especially the ending. I’m litterally sitting here deciding whether to buy Book 5 or not. Its short and not part of a publishers pack and the end of book 4 is trash. *sigh*
