I was loving this book for at least the first half of it. Then there was a certain thing that happened, and it turned me off. I am not a reading prude, and often seek out books with noncon in them. I think my issue here was that it was r@pe by an enemy, rather than noncon by the Hero. It didn’t necessarily ruin the book for me, but it certainly gave me a cringe feeling and made it so I was hesitant to keep going. The Romeo & Juliet retelling was very good, and mostly stayed true to the plot, just with modernization. I loved when there was something that jumped out at me as from the original work.
I did Prince of Hearts as an audiobook, and while I liked both voices, the male narrator was ABSOLUTELY the wrong person to be voicing a hardened mobster. Due to this, and the above spoiler as well as the cliffhanger details, I am not sure yet if I’ll be finishing the duet.
