This story follows the humans foolish behavior after destroying their own world to trying to justify exploiting another world. The dependence of a group of total misfits to save humanity is a bit of a stretch also. It would seem that if we had technology to build mechs and travel interstellar distances we could do a better job. Social issues seemed to have totally escaped the attention of humans even after all the scientific progress.
