First, I want to make it clear that I did enjoy listening to this book. In particular because of the performance by Jeff Hayes, but the story is enjoyable if you don’t think about the giant (in significance) plot holes.
Here are a few of my issues more in depth. I will try to avoid spoilers
1) Antagonists motives are not only not properly explained, but I can’t even think of a decent motive. This is the single biggest plot hole for me. A good antagonist can and does make or break a story; and the antagonist for this story makes the average cliche villain look like an amazing developed character.
2) Main character should still have been able to become rich with the weak version of his power. Either by doing lots of repairs to earn money, or just converting smaller amount of other materials to gold (or other valuables). His power was low, but not so much lower that he literally couldn’t do anything (150 points, supers he got averaged ~1k)
I also had plenty of other smaller issues. You can find others with those complaints if you go to the amazon reviews of the book and look at the 2-3 star reviews.
Will I listen to the next book in the series despite my complaints? Possibly. The book was still enjoyable; but I may instead just look for others in the genre instead.
