With each successive book, you can tell that both the author and narrator have gotten more comfortable with this world — comfortable in a good way, not lazy.

Our protagonist’s central inner struggle is getting stale. I’m not saying it’s unrealistic, but it is getting uninteresting. We get it, he can’t get over the fact that he wants to be selfish but he’s motivated by unselfish goals. Likewise for his not-so-evil henchmen. At this point, the “Supervillainy” part of the title doesn’t remotely resemble our central characters.

It’s still a fun story and the plot has gotten a lot more ambitious. I’ll listen to the final book but unless it really blows me away, I think this series will have run its course for me.
