Not a fan of certain tropes

The older I get, the less patience I have for certain tropes in my favorite genre of romance. One of these tropes happens to be the evil ex.

A lot of people know this trope: the awful, despicable human being that somehow one of the leads was with (and in this case, had a child with) and you wonder how the lead even skipped seeing the warning signs with and got together with prior to the story.

I’m not a fan. All that does is make the readers nervous when and where in the story is the ex going to make a reappearance in the story.
