Obviously flows with RPG character building story line but keeps it interesting. Good world, character, classes, skills. Frank is great, with a good balance of snark and thoughtfulness. It doesn’t take long before you actually care about Ned and see he isn’t just a rich ahole.
Author did a good job of minimizing a lot of the parts of RPG Lit that bog things down like reading the Stat sheet or leader boards. Instead of reading down the top 10 Renowned every time it is referenced, it only goes down to where Ned is.
This is the first RPG book that I have read where it wasn’t strictly a lone wolf or small group. The final boss battle was awesome, with the way the players skills were used together. Not player A hit for 100, player B hit for 121, player A hit for 111. You can almost visualize all the skill cool down timers as the players coordinate their battle.
Off to the next one!
