Long story short: the concept was outstanding and drew me in imminently. Wild is a compelling character who is easy to empathize with and root for. Overall I would recommend this, especially to first-time BL readers.

Long story long:

I loved the performances of both the narrators they made the story come to life.

I appreciated that both Wild and Jax seemed like real people who have damming flaws and make life-altering mistakes. Overall my biggest compliment to the story would be that it feels very grounded in reality despite the unusual circumstances the main character finds themselves in.

This author also did a fantastic job during the build-up. The growing relationship and sexual tension between Wild and Jax soared so high but I don’t feel like the payoff was enough for me.

***SPOILERS Below*** (* astricts indicate my own personal opinion)

After being catfished for months Wild doesn’t have a very cinematic reaction to the revelation he has been talking to Jax the whole time. While it does feel very grounded in reality maybe I wanted this moment to feel a bit larger than life*.

I felt like Wild was pretty quick to forgive Jax for the catfishing without much prompting which was a bit frustrating for me.

Then out of seemingly nowhere they are telling each other “I love you” but not based on their current relationship but on the remnants of a relationship they forged and broke 10 years prior.*

I felt like I was being asked to support them when I did not get to see the reasons why they should be together in the present. I only heard about how much they loved each other before it all fell apart.*

Overall this was a compelling read, especially the first half. I would defiantly recommend it. This book focuses on the emotional aspects of their relationship. It does not have as many adult themes or intimate moments making it an excellent choice for someone new to the BL genre.
