I needed some good, solid fiction without massive twists and bells and whistles, and I was thankful! The story reminds me of some of the young spacer stories told by Heinlein: not a ton of drama, but characters I do want to follow.
To be fair, I was not wild about the main character’s complete competence and success, but I still liked him. I hated the narration because Ish sounded like a detective in a hard-boiled mystery. However, I’d rather have that than some of the whiny YA voices that turn me off work that has potential. I will continue to follow the series and hope for more development in the writing.
