Has promise but marred by unending introspection.

Jeff Hays is always awesome. Introspection and inner monologue is fine. It gives the listener a peak on the MC’s mindset, thought process and tactics. MC kept digressing and just talking too long especially during in the heat of combat. It really took me out.

Some of the dialogue was witty and funny and worldbuilding is great. But another problem is author constantly dumbing down MC to create a situation or tension. I wish he upped the challenge instead.
