So I figured I should listen to the Tarot series while waiting for this one to come out. I was still on the first book when it did but I trudged on, despite it being much longer than it needed to be. I was still super excited for this book and my god, was it worth the wait.

You start off being thrown into Jason being in a certain situation that you wonder how he got in and half the book is a flashback but honestly i think it worked. I kept thinking there was no way he didn’t plan this scenario bc he’s Jason but that didn’t seem to be the case. Some of the grinding was a little tiring but Travis seemed to know how much was too much and graciously skipped over repetitive parts. I loved the shifters. I haven’t read Frank’s side story yet but it was nice seeing them again from Tarot: Inferno. Also minor characters like Karen popping back up was a nice touch. Not to mention, the new characters. I swear every female in this series is a badass in some way. Westley also became extremely likable.

Spoilers:

One of my absolute favorite tropes is those “aha this was the plan all along, gotcha” reveals. Even when you can see it coming and this book really delivered with that. I could also see finn and jason working together eventually but that didn’t decrease my excitement when it actually happened (plus jason ripping thru alex was just great).

Actually gonna get myself a signed physical copy of this one bc it’s definitely my favorite by far. The ending genuinely makes me wonder where this series will go. It’s the end of an arc, and now we’ve got more avatars to introduce.
