This book started a bit slow, but I feel that’s a bit normal for a series starter. The story bounced between the mom and daughter’s perspectives which was fun but at times a bit repetitive in scene replays… It did demonstrate the importance of communication and what happens when there is a lack of it. This is a clean read – G level, free of any: bad language, graphic violence and intimate situations/scenes. It really is a great fantasy for the elementary school age reader on up, although as an adult the pre-teen angst got a little grating for me (probably doesn’t help that I am in that stage and older with my own kids now). I would like to see where this series goes. The plot and world building was great, and it left off in a spot that does leave you wanting more.

The narrator did a good job with the voices and overall acting. I felt it was a tad slow but once I sped it up to 1.25x it was much better.
