This book is… wonderful, it sweeps you off your feet with TJ’s strong characterizations and phenomenal writing style. The voice actor feels… rough at first, but honestly I cant imagine another voice actor doing this as well as Kurt does.
This book is about werewolves, more than that though, its about family, and love. And not just the love at the heart of the central romance… but love at the core of all the interpersonal connections in this book. The kindness and wisdom of a mother, the ferocious protection and love of a father, the innocent love between two best friends that slowly blossoms into something much more, and the love between brothers. Stupid decisions are made… a lot of them, but in the context of the story you find it believable that they would make such decisions, even if you scream that they’re being stupid. I highly reccommend it, but bring a box of tissues, maybe two. This isnt a lighthearted book, but one that deals with the hard realities of grief and separation and abandonment.
One more thing to keep in mind, this is a slow burn book, its very long and winding, as most of TJ’s writing is, but this book is on a whole other level… I listened to it over long stints so it didnt bother me much and I finished it in about a week… But if you plan on listening to it maybe 30 minutes to an hour at a time on your way to work or something, I would reccommend something else until you have the time to devote to this book, because you will feel as though you’re getting no where fast.
