I’ve read a ton of LitRPG books, they have become a favorite of mine. This one isn’t technically a LitRPG because the events are actually happening to the character, but it’s built on the LitRPG premise, which is kinda cool and a fun twist.

The characters are a lot of fun, Carl has unfortunate turns hit him left and right and his terrible ex-girlfriend’s cat is now a sentient and intelligent speaking partner in defeating an intergalactic gameshow. Fun twist. I’d recommend it with two caveats:

Warning: The book has a lot of language and F-bombs. It’s unfortunate, it’s not necessary and kinda detracts in my mind. Also, there are some vulgarities to the book, kinda PG-16 level. I know not everyone likes either of those inclusions and I appreciate it when reviewers make that known heading in.

-side note on narrator- I got used to it as the book went on, but the narrator is trying to do a slight “Patrick Warburton” voice that seems to be generically applied to a lot of cocky meathead-esque main characters. It’s pretty annoying. Just talk regular!! But after a couple hours, you kinda just get used to it. And the MC isn’t really a meathead, he’s a fairly intelligent blue collar “good with his hands” type guy.
