The idea of this series seems good,but it isn’t translating well onto the page. there is little to no character development, and the plot is rushed while the descriptions and gore seem to go on endlessly. Worst of all, it is very easy to forget that this is a lit RPG as there is almost no leveling going on and it seems to come up only three or four times in the book as an afterthought. also, for a dungeon series there is no time spent in a dungeon. very strange.
As for the reading of the book, the voices just don’t work. especially the main character, edward. he sounds like a superhero and is supposed to be a clerk at a store. he then enters this world and has no idea what he’s doing. the superhero voice just doesn’t work. also, all of the added effects for the spider Queen’s voice made it almost impossible to know what she was saying.
I’m going to give the series one more try and listen to the second book but unless it all improves greatly there is little chance I will get the third book.
