This book alternates views between Kala and her daughter Azlana. I felt like I was playing catch up for most of the book, and reading through old reviews it seems like it was originally book 2, so perhaps I should go back and find the now-prequel, but it also worked because Azlana is completely lost throughout the entire story so the reader is on the same page as she is. The last couple chapters really picked up gives me hope there will be more action in the next one, since this book was mostly world building.

I listened to the audio version, and the narrator did well changing her voice each chapter so even if you stopped in the middle of one, you could easily place which viewpoint you were in.
