I’m having a hard time seeing a point to this book other than to set up the next one.
There were very few positive things that happened to the core party and pretty much any negative things that could have been interesting and changed things up are undone with a poof or there is a workaround that allows the team to continue on as usual for now.
Also, for a book that is named after that world’s god of death, the character and his followers play virtually 0 part in the story.
Mortimer is introduced in 1 chapter, does nothing, and is never heard from again.
The most that happens is a follower pops up out of nowhere later on, casts a debuff on one of the main party’s enemies, and vanishes just as fast without ever saying a word.
