I can’t remember the last book that I both cried and laughed through, but this one not only drew me in on a personal level, it changed everything I’ve ever thought about WWII in the process! These stories are the real deal, told from the heart by a man who lovingly lays them out on that rifle.

I’m in my 60s, so I grew up with uncles and grandfathers who all served in The Big War. Yet none of them ever shared their experiences, in fact most of them would avoid talking about it. They all had careers and families that occupied their lives. And now they are all gone. All except one, a 95yo uncle of my hubs who served in the Pacific and now lives several states away. We’ve been talking about visiting him, and now we will, and I will hug him with all my might out of sheer gratitude and appreciation. My sincere hope is that we will finally hear his story, that we can respectfully convince him that his experiences should not be shelved, lest we who remain forget.
