A camping/hunting trip into Canada’s Northwest Territories turns into a nightmare. Greg Healy, his father Tuck, his daughter Emma, along with two of his hunting friends Tommy and Eustace, helicopter into the Canadian Wilderness on a hunting trip. Greg, an environmental lawyer, had another covert reason for the trip. The trip turns sour when what appears to be an EMP shuts down all their technology. Encountering a grumpy bear adds to their dismay. Following a pipeline to a weigh station brings hope but once again, the situation goes bad. Once again, they head out for home. Will they all make it? Back at Greg’s parent’s home; a ranch in northwestern Washington State near Ferndale, the situation for Greg’s mother Marion, his wife Tabitha, and his son Darryl, is not much better. They have to deal with a small community on the verge of panic, and a psychotic Mayor Filmore who has decided to take over, collecting all supplies by any means necessary. Will they survive the Mayor’s scheme? The story is interesting, with a great cast of characters, authentic circumstances, with tension and events that keep you listening. I enjoyed this first volume of a new series and look forward to the next book. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
