I enjoyed Book 1 immensely. It wasn’t groundbreaking and had echos of “The Lost Fleet” and other series. It’s not a groundbreaking series at all but it’s a solid story that captivated me. Plus I needed a new sci fi series.

Right off the bat, I am horrified when books swap narrators partway through a series. It personally throws me off and takes awhile to adjust.

Now if it swapped from Luke Daniels (an incredible narrator in my opinion with the awards and track record to back it up.) to someone such as RC Bray or Scott Brick or someone on par with Luke Daniels then it would annoy me but I could adjust.

Instead we get someone who I personally haven’t heard before. And I’ll avoid his books like the plague. I read an early comment that said “eeyore voice” and I concur. The accents and the way the last syllables are dragged out kill any ability to actually pay attention to what’s being said.

I think the narrator choice is best reflected in the mount of ratings from book 1 to book 5 in the series.
Book 1 starts at 1500ish, strong start good narrator.
Book 2 with 1000, lot of people like myself bought book 2, narrator swap was a horrid idea.
By book 4 we see it hit 500 and lower for the rest of the series.

My advice. Stick with the same narrator, and if you do have to swap them. Then get someone on equal caliber.
