At times the story was a bit all over the place and failed to keep my attention but in general it’s a great book. And I’m a sucker for dark plot twists like the movie Upgrade or The Mist and don’t need happy endings to enjoy a good story, so I thought the ending was great. I actually like bad endings since they feel more real to me. They evoke a far stronger emotional reaction and thus stay with me rather than the usual “oh that’s nice” and forget about it I get from common happy endings that feel more like wishful thinking than actual endings. The author could leave it here and wouldn’t be angry at how it ended, but I think he has more to tell us about this world and I look forward to discovering what that is.
