I liked the concept of following a group of people, who aren’t preppers, through a cataclysmic disaster. The author does a good job of telling the story, though he often puts in too many details that sidetracks the story. Details are good to help bring the audience into the story and give it life, but too many details and it starts to feel like they’re there simply to fill in space.

I think the author missed the point on telling the story he wanted – or at least, the one involving unprepared people. They too conveniently skipped over the hard part of the scenario and didn’t really have to deal with their unpreparedness.

Overall, the book is well-written and interesting enough that I went onto the 2nd book in the series.
