I really enjoyed this book. The characters felt real, their dialogue and relationships were believable and warm.

The author went out of her way to make sure the main character didn’t have major, inexplicable power jumps. Everything comes at a price – either hard work, brutal beatings, or some of the main characters’ scarce funds.

The story has plenty of funny moments, but it’s a more serious read overall.

The April fools chapter included after the epilogue was hilarious, and I loved the little surprise Easter egg.

Going to start book 2 right away!
