There’s definitely pro’s to this one. I think there was a lot of heart in the writing and there’s a real sense of life the gets breathed into the MC and the characters surrounding him. I appreciated the dedication to not making him completely overpowered. He fails, and that makes for good listening and when Ned does come out on top, it really feels like a win for us as readers as well. That said, the story could definitely have benefited from an editor. Some of the writing is a bit sloppy. Also, I had a real hard time empathizing with a multimillionaire, period. There are a number of plot holes and inconsistencies as well like, seriously he never leaves the game? how? He kind of addresses the need to not sleep but the human body at least needs food and water and to go to the bathroom etc. Feels like a real big oversight when our MC never leaves the game. I feel like there’s also a missed opportunity to explore Ned’s life outside of the game and how these two worlds could potentially clash in his understanding of what is real and what isn’t. Anyway, as a LitRPG it’s solid but as a novel in general, it could have really benefitted from an editor or at least someone to poke some holes in it before it went into production.
