This was the first book I’ve read/listened to by Rachel Blake. It was a shorter listen. Those are most often harder to make a reader feel like they read/listened to a complete story. I feel like I did miss some things. We were just dropped in, which worked but didn’t. We needed more. As a romance, it was lacking. The real couple in love didn’t get together until the very, very end. There was no heart enduring moments as a couple. Now, Alaska, Murphy’s best friend, was wonderful. Loved her character. I can’t go into details without spoilers so I’ll leave it there other than there were twists that were not expected, it’s definitely a dark read with spousal abuse disguised as BDSM. I’d love to see more of Murphy and Cross as well as Alaska and Joey.

Craig A Heart, Blair Dade, and Sean Duregger were good narrators. There were times I was unsure who was talking, but quickly caught up. Blair had a few times when her performance reached my heart. Beautiful job there.
