This was a great book. I enjoyed the”normal old guy” MC perspective. He isn’t an ex military, martial arts expert, or super genius. He’s just an old gamer looking for a new challenge.
That villain though… I don’t remember the last time I was so invested in seeing someone get what was coming to them. He wasn’t a Dark Lord or even a Bond villain, just some whiney snot with an over-powered ability. I hated that guy!
Which means, of course, that he was very well written and well read. All the characters were solid. They were layered and relatable and very well narrated.
I was also happy with the ending. I know this is a trilogy but the story of book one was complete and satisfying. There was no big cliffhanger, but I am still eager to explore more of the World Tree in book two.
