This book takes the light-hearted LRPG world of his previous books and tries to make it Serious, Dark, and worst of all philosophical in the context of the other books. If you are looking for the humor of the other books you will find sadistic characters for the sake of being sadistic, if you are looking for a protagonist like Dale to be the underdog or a Dungeon like Cal to have a pun and fun trap you get 4 hours of being told growing old is bad… though true most of us know that already and that is not why I listen to LRPGs.
As much as I hate to say it, if you like the other “in-world” books this one is a hard pass.
