Had been enjoying this series except for Mr. Dues ex Henry but this one just goes over the top. Henry can invent bombs( in a world where bombs are not allowed to be invented), Henry can basically single-handedly destroy a planet devouring demon. Henry is so…Henry that a basically ageless demi-god decides to leave her master to ‘bond’ with him and become his second wife. Henry could win every lottery if he entered.

Half the book is getting the crew back together, major characters are pushed to the side by Henry because he is Henry and will save the day. Conversations are stilted, several times not only is the author saying spit it out, so am I. By the time I gave up at the aforementioned wedding, every conversation and action revolved around Henry. What had been a series about a group of adventurers had become the Henry show. Since Henry can’t fail, invents things that people with thousands of years of experience can’t even think about, and is so drop-dead sexy that demi-gods drop everything they have been for hundreds of years to be with him.

Sad. Promising series and world down the tubes.

Also, in the last half of the book, the narrator sounds like he gives up on at least the female characters as all their voices start sounding the same.
