I love basically everything SBT (soundbooth theater) produces but this was was just awful. Whomever decided music needed to play both that loudly and regularly needs a swift kick to the nards or a heavy punch to a tit. How this ever passed Q&A or editing or any other process I have no clue.

The music would’ve fine if it didn’t make it literally impossible to hear the narrator, imagine playing music and audible through the same speaker where the music was at 100% and audible was at 60%. It wasn’t a huge problem at first but the deeper into the book you get the worse it is.

The author should get a free rerelease from SBT for this stupidity. I was honestly looking forward to the next book despite it not being amazing but if the audio is going to be anything like the first one I think I’ll take a HARD PASS on it.

Honestly if I didn’t get to listen to this for free (included with membership or something) I’d get it refunded. Honestly I have MUCH higher expectations from SBT as I know what they are really capable of from their previous narrations and when you compare them to this trash you’d think they collectively lost their minds and started beating their skills with hammers while recording this.

I don’t want it to sound completely doom and gloom nor do I want to leave the impression the book is awful. The story is okay, but leaves much to be desired. Some of the characters don’t get fleshed out very well and their backgrounds are rather bland or non-existent. The bad guys seems to be afterthoughts, have no clear motive, there is no singular bad guy (except maybe the doctor, but again, he is rather bland).

The interactions between the MC and the friends/GF seem like it’s trending towards a harem type relationship but in the most boring and plain way possible. Loads of opportunities for MC to make any progress toward that end is never taken despite there being willingness (at least to some degree) on the ladies part. MC is having WAY TOO MUCH internal dialogue that is just repeating previous internal dialogue.

All this said I’m still enjoying the story enough to continue despite SBT dropping the ball, their collective minds, and their previously prestine reputation (IMO at least) with this production.
