Helping Grady save face at his birthday party after longtime crush Eli arrives with a new fiance, Rome makes the split decision to pose as his boyfriend. Their surprise kiss leads to an even more surprising romantic connection for the two longtime friends, as they agree to keep up the pretense by fake dating and before long it becomes all too real.
Grady and Rome make a steamy couple, but their getting together would’ve been all the more compelling had Eli not been so irredeemably awful on all levels. Actually, despite being in their 30s, everyone came across as pretty immature. And why Grady has spent decades not-so-secretly pining for someone so manipulative, selfish and deliberately hurtful remains a mystery.
Narrator Austin Jay gave an ok performance here, without much variation between character voices. I received this free review copy audio book by request and have left this honest review voluntarily.
